A Proud Instructor
July 01, 2025

We would like to commend a SGKA Student who went to help a female who was in need of help in the early hours of the morning when from nowhere, her partner produced a knife and attempted to slash the SGKA student across the face. Many years of consistent training kicked in immediately the attacker was quickly put to the floor where upon the police arrived and arrested the individual. No injury was sustained by either the student or the female.

We would not advocate knowingly fighting someone who is carrying a knife, however when it materialises out of nothing, you must be prepared to act accordingly. This incident proved that many years of study and hard training does work (and did on this occasion).

Keep studying and practicing. You never know when you might need to act.

Christmas 2024 Message
From Ivor

December 23, 2024

Hi Everyone

Firstly I would just like to say thankyou for all the presents and Christmas cards I received this year. I am very humbled by it all and really appreciate it very much.

Firstly I would like to thank all my assistant instructors, Craig, Hayden and James, for their contribution and help throughout the year. Also, a big thank you to the brown belts and other students who at times have also helped out with instruction.

The Clubs/Association is progressing very well with new members joining us and old members returning. Congratulations to all of our students that have continued  their own commitment of improvement to the sport, and also to all the students that received awards this year. I know it does require a lot of time and sacrifice but the hard work will pay off.

This year we have introduced a Competition Squad which is run at Patchway on a Sunday morning for all members, ably run by the NKA Coach Jason Steele. This year we have entered 4 Competitions and achieved 10 medals, 2 of which were gold. If you would like to become involved, then by all means come along and give it a try.

I will be continuing my Officiating at home and abroad and have been selected to attend the European Cadet,Junior and under 21 Karate Championships in Poland in February.

Finally I would like to say Thankyou to all the parents who support their children and by doing so also supporting the Club / Association

I wish you all a merry Christmas and happy, healthy and prosperous new year.

Thank you for your continued support

Ivor

Christmas 2023 Message From Ivor
December 20, 2023

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank parents and students for their continuous support throughout 2023. Congratulations to all Students that have progressed throughout the year and have been successful in their grading examinations .

It is not just about passing grading examinations though; or me personally and my team of instructors it is about seeing students grow in confidence and become better as individuals in a manner of things throughout their everyday life. It is about making new friends and becoming a “Karate Family", having respect for each other and showing that respect to others outside of Karate also.

I would like to thank Craig and Hayden for their continuous support in helping to run the Patchway Club especially when I’m away at courses ,competitions or board meetings ,and also Paul for running the Clevedon cub also. I would also like to thank Jo and Ciera with their help in setting up the website and running it even though they have busy schedules outside of karate.

Membership is growing really well within the Association and hopefully this will continue in the new year.

The last training session will be 22nd of December and we will resume again on Wednesday 3rd January 2024.

There will be a small presentation at the end of Fridays (22nd Dec) Training Session. Thankyou for the Christmas cards and presents it is very much appreciated and I am very humbled by it.

In closing I would like to wish all of you a Happy Christmas, and Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year and again Thankyou for your continued support
